Valentine's Stand-top Vignette

As you can see from this post, I've been wanting to decorate for more holidays, so here we go with Valentines Day. I decided to go with a more family love instead of

romantic theme, at least for this stand (it's all I've got done so far, but I hope to do more, soon). It ended up being somewhat understated, but since this stand is right by our main door, having some spare room on it is probably good.

The roses prints in frames were from my grandmother. The frames did not have stands on them, so I switched out the cardboard backs for ones from other frames that did. The plate was my great-grandmother's. My mother remembers eating on it as a child. The rose on the stand is a piece of jewelry from my other grandmother.
The rose print in this frame was stained so I replaced it with a Pynk collage from Kodak. I got the matte and print free at CVS. (See here for how I got it free.) The photos are ones I took with family over the holidays. The heart charm on the ribbon is my mother's. It is made out of her mother's wedding ring.
Isn't that writing desk/dispatch box on the right neat? My parents got it for me, and I use it regularly to write letters and cards. The letters/ cards displayed in are real ones I have received.
I decorated this candle holder with a ribbon and a necklace charm of my mother's that she received from my father. (NOTE: I'm not planning on burning the candle, I'm not sure that would be safe with the ribbon)

I know there didn't end up being very many hearts (did you notice I did a closeup of each one), I just used what I could find but I thought it turned out pretty well. This was entirely made from items I had around the house, none of which were Valentine's specific (not that I would mind some "real" decorations, I just think it's neat to see how much one can do without spending money on it).

  7. I think you totally got the Valentine's theme down. You don't have to have hearts and cupids popping out everywhere to say "Valentine's." ;) I love the cute little candle, and I bet this vignette is even more special b/c it includes items from your family!

Thanks so much for joining my party this weekend! :)

  8. I love your grandmother's plate! I knew that was a special one before I started reading. You may have said & I missed it but what kind is it? Looks antique. My mother was a dealer back in the day. Thanks for the "wedding pic" comment on my V'day blog. My hubby insists on keeping that up there.

  9. Thanks for the comment Melanie, the plate says "Steuberville ROSE DAWN" on the back.
